Hebden Bridge Duck Race goes online for 2021

The Hebden Bridge Duck Race will be held on Easter Monday, April 5, but due to the pandemic it has had to be moved to a secret Pennine location from where it will be filmed and shared online under the title “Hebden Bridge Duck Race goes Totally Quackers”.

Rotary Duck Race organiser Roger Benn said: “We’re hoping to overcome people’s disappointment from not being able to attend in person by inviting them to support the event online instead.

"We will still be having two races, the main race with small yellow ducks on sale at £1 each and the business duck race with their larger red, green and blue cousins at £10 each and both races will have substantial prizes for the winners.

Roger continued: “Running it online has allowed us to create character ducks who will be having Totally Quackers adventures on social media which we hope people will enjoy and share.

“On race day we also hope to provide something equally memorable and enjoyable.”

The Rotary Club have asked local schools and nurseries to participate with online duck related artwork which despite the ongoing lockdowns will hopefully also be displayed in local shop windows as the club tries to do its bit in bringing some life and colour back to the town.

Members have also asked local businesses to create duck related merchandise which people can purchase online when they buy their ducks.

Roger said: “Although we hope that next year the race will be back in the town centre we want people to support us this year as they normally would.

“All the profits we make from the event get re-distributed in the form of grants from the Rotary Club which people can apply for at any time, so it’s important that we still raise as much as we possible can.”
